The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya

This review is long overdue. I am reminded of this after seeing Haruhi in the top 10 best rated and top 10 most popular anime in the previous post.

Type: Comedy
Episodes: 14

Synposis:
The story revolves around an atypical schoolgirl, Haruhi, who is obsessed with aliens, time travelers and ESPer. On the first day of school, she announced: "I have no interest in ordinary humans. If there are any aliens, beings from the future, or super-humans, come see me. That is all!"

Follow Haruhi on her hilarious and madcap adventure in running her self-established club, 'Save our world by Overloading it with fun Suzumiya Haruhi's Brigade' (S.O.S for short); as well as the endless suffer of her classmate, Kyon, in her hands.

Review:
Weird, just weird. But it is this weirdness that makes this anime so entertaining! Voted 'Best Comedy 2006', 'Best Female Character 2006', 'Best Anime Overall 2006' by the AnimeReactor community, this anime is a definite must watch!!

P.S: The episodes are not in order, and it is meant to be that way. It is purposely jumbled up for no reason I can think of. If you really want to follow the story linearly, listen carefully to what Haruhi and Kyon have to say during the synposis after each epsiode.

In effect, the less a title has votes, the more it is pulled towards the mean (7.8056). In other words, these are the titles that many people agree are great.
bayesian rating = (v ÷ (v+m)) × R + (m ÷ (v+m)) × C
where:
R = average for the movie
v = number of votes for the movie
m = minimum votes required to be listed (currently 4)
C = the mean vote across the whole report (currently 7.8056)

School Days

This is the new anime now in Japan. I went to Akihabara and everywhere there is poster displaying this anime. Not very sure what is the anime about. However, I got the story from animeNewsNetwork.

"The story is about a love triangle between the male protagonist Makoto, and the two heroines Kotonoha and Sekai. Makoto develops a love interest in Kotonoha, a girl in the same year but different class. Although they both take the same train to school, she is unaware of his existence. His classmate, Sekai, manages to put the two together despite holding strong feelings towards Makoto.
This story is about a love triangle about one boy and two girls. His name is Makoto, had a galfriend name Saionji. She had a hot for him, but he didn't know. Makoto had a hot for Katsura. Saiongi is helping him to get closer to Katsura, but she hidden her feeling for him."

Tsukihime, Lunar Legend

The is anime was originally broadcast from October 9 to December 25, 2003, and has been broadcast in Japan by TBS, BS-i, and the anime television network Animax. Yes it is 2003... now than I get to watch it. Its a bit late but it is better than never.

The plot is about a 17-year old high school student name Shiki Tohno, who suffered from a fatal, life-threatening injury in his childhood. Ever since that injury, he has been seeing lines on the objects, which, when cut, will destroy the object they reside within.

This unique yet traumatizing ability of Shiki's is shielded by a pair of special glasses, a childhood gift from a mysterious woman, Aoko Aozaki. These glasses aid him in not seeing the death-lines and to live a relatively peaceful and normal life

Shiki is sent away from his household, the Tohno mansion, because of the fatal injury and the ill health that followed afterwards. He spends years living with relatives of the Tohno family, the Arimas. Finally, after eight years, following the death of his adoptive father, Makihisa, Shiki returns to the Tohno mansion to live with his sister, Akiha. Akiha had been given the responsibility of being the Tohno family's new matriarch.

The day he moved back to the Tohno household, he stumbled upon a woman named Arcueid Brunstud. At that monent, he decapitated her with one stab of his knife. To his dismay, one day she suddenly showed up beside him later alive and well, asking him to be her bodyguard.

As the story progresses, Shiki gradually discovers his past and numerous other mysteries surrounding him.

Toki Wo Kakeru Shojo

'Toki wo kakeru shojo' or 'The girl who leaped through time' is a bizarre tale of a junior high school girl who discovered the ability to travel through time. With this ability, Makoto travels back in time and attempts to change the past to achieve the outcomes she desires, often with unexpected and adverse results.
A humourous and very well drawn anime, this film is still screening at Cathay Orchard at the time of this post. Do catch it soon as it is already the second week it is showing in cinemas.

Shin Eiga Evangelion

REJOICE, EVANGELION OTAKUS!!!

Yes, you read the title correctly. I ain't talking about the last decade's TV series Shin Seiki Evangelion.

Gainax have announced four (4, yes 4!!!) new movies for Evangelion are in the works. The movies will all be under the title, Rebuild of Evangelion. Of the four movies, one will be a prequel to the TV series, one will be a mid-series movie, and the other two will be sequels.

The first of the four movies is scheduled to be released in Japan on 1st September 2007. The remaining three movies will be released in 2008.
